10 weeks at Agent99 has come to an end, and time has gone so quickly. “Time flies, when you are having fun” – isn’t that what people say? The last couple of months has been absolutely amazing and I have learned so many things, that I don’t even know where to start. But one of the things I have learnt during my internship and probably one of the most important skills in life – I will give it a go:

Basics of PR

I have learned the basics of PR and I think that’s what an internship is supposed to do. So, mission accomplished. I have built a really good understanding of why PR is crucial for a company and why our clients rely on Agent99 when they have exciting news. I now understand that PR is much more than an article or an interview in the news. You just never see the groundwork that has been put in prior to seeing the piece in the media.

I’ve also seen how campaigns work from the start to the end. Setting goals and KPIs prior to commencing the work is very important so you can keep on track during the entirety of the campaign. I also understand that it’s not always easy to go from a brainstorm, to a press release and then to actually pitching it to journalists in the hope of securing a piece. Much, much more goes into achieving this!

Essentials of a good relationship

Sometimes, the best thing you can do as an intern is to listen. By observing the rest of the team, I have learned that trust and clear communication between the client and the agency is an essential part of achieving success. When I’m in the office, I can always hear the rest of the team typing on their keyboards like nothing else matters more in that given situation – and it’s exactly how it is. They really care about their clients and I’m sure that they will do almost anything it takes to get the desired results. To build trust with a client takes time, but Agent99 have showed me that communication is really important to keeping the client happy. They achieve this by always updating the client and keeping them across everything they’re working on.

Teamwork is key

Through my experience at Agent99, I’ve come to understand that PR in general can be hard work, and that proactivity is important. My role has usually been supporting the rest of the team, and for me I have focused on doing every task as best as I can, so I can deliver work that they are satisfied with. In a team of five, there has always been space for me to share my thoughts in discussions, brainstorms or other meetings, which shows me the importance of a team. We have spent five days a week together, so to get the best out of each other’s knowledge and skills, it’s crucial that we work together and learn from each other. I also really like the atmosphere in the office and that we can still have fun during the week, it’s not just about hard work all the time.

I am very thankful to have been a part of this amazing team and I know that they will become even more successful – simply because they are wonderful people that work hard and care about their clients!
